From the Parish LibraryNEW BOOK CORNER Not even Halloween yet, and here come Christmas in the stores and a new book to the Top Shelf: Advent Conspiracy: Making Christmas Meaningful (Again) Rick McKinley, Chris Seay, and Greg Holder Celebrating the birth of Jesus without surrendering to society’s commercialization of Christmas is not a new idea, but this short, well-organized book, now revised and updated, is a good practical guide to holding a meaningful celebration with more joy and no debt, while helping others. Some may remember Sister Ingrid’s preaching a sermon on it. The book’s four tenets as summarized on the jacket are:
Advent Conspiracy is now on the Top Shelf; its regular location is in the Seasonal section of the library, shelf code SEAS MCK. To borrow it, or any other book, please fill out a green slip from the small bookcase in the narthex, and put it in the pink box. The loan period is 6 weeks, but this one is a very quick read! In the Children’s Section, three donated story books, one of which Terri read from during last Sunday’s Chat at the Chancel, have now been added to the catalogue; these are also displayed on the Top Shelf this week. All three were written by local Heiltsuk author Teoni Spathelfer and beautifully illustrated by local artist Natassia Davies. All three are about the experiences of Little Wolf as child and adult; titles are Little Wolf, White Raven, and Abalone Woman. The books are suitable for ages 4 through 8. Children’s books can be borrowed in the same way as adult books, and have the same loan period. |
