Celebrate Black History Month
Happy Black History Month Not that long ago in December of 1995, the House of Commons officially recognized February as Black History Month. It’s not widely known that black people were enslaved in Canada. All year we celebrate the achievements of black people, but this month is BHM. There are many ways to participate in Black History Month (BHM). View the local events for this month. They include a BHM launch with music and food on Store Street, and a fashion show at the Royal BC Museum, which has free entry. Castro Boateng (owner of House of Boateng) who is a local chef will be catering the BHM Launch. The Dolan family has used his catering services many times and his food is amazing. If you would like to check out a couple of your fellow parishioners; Jill Tyler-Dolan is starting her book tour in March, but her book is available at local bookstores like Coles. (More information will be coming soon); William Dolan would also love to share his music with you all, as he has several songs/videos out that are available to stream on many media platforms like Spotify, Apple, and Youtube. Great response on book study on Biblical CourageUpdate on Book Study Twenty copies of Bishop Budde's book How we Learn to be Brave have been ordered from Christian Books Victoria, directly from the publisher. We'll keep you posted about their anticipated delivery date. At this point, because of the demand for the book, we don't know how long it would take to get the books. A date and time for the book study has not yet been set, although it is likely to be in the early evening, in person, at the church. Don't worry if you can't attend every session - read the book and attend the sessions you can. The Book Study will be hybrid, so that those who are unable to attend in person can attend via Zoom. Thank you to those who have signed up! |
