How2charistTonight @ 7 PM Have you ever wanted to understand more about our Anglican liturgy? Using the model of an instructed eucharist—in which the history of the eucharistic rite and the symbolism of the service are explained in narrative form, Episcopal priest Reverend Callie Swanlund has created a seamless liturgy that is both stimulating and enlightening, taking inspiration from VH1's Pop-Up Video series. Join us for a viewing of How2charist, followed by a discussion. Join us in person at the St John's Room this evening at 7 PM, or via Zoom here: https://bc-anglican-ca.zoom.us/j/89727592570 |

We are looking for a group of volunteers for a church garden clean-up day this fall. Our first meeting will be just after the 10 AM service either on August 25th or September 1st. Please indicate your availability on the sign-up sheet in the narthex. The first meeting will be a short walk-around to determine what needs to be done, and to decide on a date for the clean-up. |
Trees in Front of ChurchA Message from Buildings & Grounds On Friday September 13th, Tomahawk Tree Services will be coming to the Church of the Advent to cut down two Douglas Fir trees that are at the end of our parking lot. The trees will be cut into fireplace lengths and we hope to sell most of it as firewood on Saturday, September 14th. If you can assist us on September 14th in moving the wood around for potential customers and loading it into trucks or cars, it would be appreciated. We hope to charge for the wood to help pay for part of this large expense. Please talk to Bob Nichols, Joel Glanfield, or Ingrid Andersen, or sign up on a list that will be in the Narthex. Thanks for your consideration. |
Church of the Advent Vision 2030Be part of our building a vision for our parish's future! Saturday Sept 21st & Sunday Sept 29th - afternoons. Mark your calendars for the two-part parish visioning workshop led by Bishop Logan. Each session will begin with a potluck lunch. We want to know: Who is God leading the Church of the Advent to be and to do in 2030? (in 5 years’ time) How will we get there? This process will be prayer-filled AND practical. Every voice is important, no matter your age, no matter how long you’ve been in the parish. We’ll be working in small groups to ensure that everyone gets a chance to speak. |
Safe Church TrainingSunday, September 22 @ 12 PM We will be providing another Safe Church training on Sunday, September 22nd at noon in the St. John’s room. The diocese requires that anyone who volunteers at the church MUST obtain a Safe Church certification, which is effective for 5 years, after which it is renewed by taking the training again. Please sign up in the Narthex if you plan on attending. The training will take approximately an hour. Everyone is invited to bring their own bagged lunch. For anyone who is unable to attend on the 22nd but requires the training, please contact Terry Mikkonen at safechurch@colwoodanglican.ca. |

Church of the Advent Nametags Available!
Our parish is growing rapidly, and it's important for visitors and new parishioners to get to know names. The Church of the Advent nametags are made of a light brass, laser engraved with a magnetic backing so that it will not damage your Sunday finery. The cost is dependent on the number ordered. We usually order in batches of 12 or more. If you are interested, or would like more information, please see Mike Armstrong after church or email spike39@shaw.ca with ‘Nametag’ in the subject line. |
